About Me

While dumpster diving in 1995, Katie found a pair of K2 Extreme Ski’s and decided it was a sign that Steamboat was her place! One of her best memories of that summer was seeing David Grisman play his mandolin on the Courthouse lawn. That's where the free concerts used to take place and Steamboat was still small enough to close down the street at 5PM on a Friday night. Supporting herself by making tortillas for a local Mexican restaurant that she would eventually own, she saved enough money to spend the summer in Alaska cooking in what used to be a brothel. Luckily she got paid good money and was able to return to Steamboat and take classes at the local college. After transferring and earning her degree at Colorado State University, she worked several seasons as a wildlife tech (mainly birds). This allowed her to follow her passion for birds and nature as she lived in a trailer ‘down by the river’ on the Arapahoe National Wildlife Refuge. After this mission, piecing together her management and restaurant expertise, she purchased the iconic La Montana Mexican Restaurant. This was just as the Great Recession was hitting Steamboat. Definitely not for the faint of heart, she still thrived, while learning and laughing a lot. Today while she misses her restaurant friends, she's still laughing and learning and enjoys working in real estate. Her skills as a creative thinker and problem solver mesh well and serve her clients well. When she's not working, you can find Katie counting grouse in the Elk River Valley, shredding Mount Werner, skate skiing Howelsen, mountain biking, or hanging with friends and family.
